Welcome to the Hallam ’89 Theatre Club website.

As our name suggests, the club started life in 1989 following the merger of two longstanding Sheffield Amdram Societies (Hallam Theatre Club and Prism) and in our 30+ years of existence it’s fair to say that the last 18 months have been the most challenging.  We very much regret that we have not been able to welcome our regular patrons (and new ones) to productions at the University Drama Studio but thanks to our loyal members we have been able to continue with our usual weekly meetings, initially via Zoom, then in members’ back gardens and since June back in our normal rehearsal rooms at Ranmoor.

You’ll find some of the results of our efforts in the Multimedia section of this website.  There’s a series of video monologues recounting members’ lockdown experiences and a “radio play” version of A Christmas Carol with more “radio plays” to follow soon – all free to access and download.  And since we performed No More Sitting on the Old School Bench (by Alan Bleasdale) in February 2020 we’ve been preparing our next production, The Railway Children, adapted for the stage by our very own David Hague.

Well, the Green Dragon (as the train in The Railway Children is called) may be pulling into the station rather later than anticipated, but it’s already arrived at Stannington as part of Stannington Library’s “Story Festival” and is now approaching Crookes Club.  Just click on the Productions tab to find further information and details of how to book tickets.  You’ll notice that current circumstances have meant we have had to find new performance spaces for this production and we’d be interested to get your feedbackon these venues.

So from everyone at Hallam ’89, we are overjoyed to be able to welcome you back to a live production and look forward to seeing you soon at one of our performances.  Watch this space for details of our next production and, if you’d like to be part of it, click on the Contact tab above.  We’d love you to join us.
